Privacy Policy

HI Kendama is a small kendama company based in Hawai‘i. This policy explains what we collect when you visit hikendama.comor place an order, why we collect it, and who else sees it. We've tried to write it in plain language rather than legalese.

What we collect

When you place an order, you give us:

• Your name, email address, and phone number
• A shipping address, if you choose shipping over pickup
• What you ordered, and the order total
• Any messages you send us in your order chat, and any pickup times we arrange there
• For school fundraiser orders, the student name, grade, and teacher you enter, so the school can hand the order to the right student

When you simply browse the site, we also automatically receive technical information: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the site or ad that referred you.

Payment information

We do not collect or store card numbers. Checkout is handled by Stripe on Stripe's own pages, and your card details go directly to them. We receive only a confirmation that payment succeeded, the amount, and an identifier for the transaction.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies:

• Essential storage. Your cart is kept in your browser's local storage so it survives a page reload. Admin sign-in uses a session cookie.
• Advertising and attribution. If you arrive from one of our ads, we store the campaign details from the link in a first-party cookie so we can tell which ad led to which order. Meta's pixel also sets its own cookies (_fbp and _fbc) to identify your browser session.

Advertising — Meta Pixel and Conversions API

We advertise on Instagram and Facebook. To understand which ads actually lead to orders, we use the Meta Pixel on this site and Meta's Conversions API on our server. Together these tell Meta when someone views a kendama, adds one to their cart, starts checkout, or completes a purchase, along with the products and amounts involved.

When you complete an order, our server sends Meta a record of that purchase. It includes the order value, the products, our internal order number, and identifying information used only to match the purchase to an ad view: your email address, phone number, name, and address are hashed with SHA-256 before they leave our server, meaning Meta receives an irreversible fingerprint rather than the values themselves. Your IP address, browser user agent, and Meta's own cookie identifiers are also included.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not send Meta — or anyone else — your order chat messages or student information from fundraiser orders.

You can limit this. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, and browser tracking-protection features and ad blockers will stop the pixel from loading. You can also adjust what Meta shows you and how it uses off-platform activity in your Meta ad preferences.

Who else sees your information

We share only what each service needs to do its job:

• Stripe — payment processing
• Meta — advertising measurement, as described above
• Resend — order confirmation and shipping emails
• USPS — name and address for shipping labels, on shipped orders
• Vercel and Neon — website hosting and our order database
• Participating schools — for fundraiser orders only, the student and order details needed to distribute what was ordered

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep order records as long as we need them for accounting, tax, and customer-service reasons. Advertising cookies expire on their own — ours within 90 days. You can ask us to delete your information at any time, though we may need to keep records of completed transactions where the law requires it.

Children

This site is intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect information directly from children. Fundraiser orders may include a student's name, grade, and teacher, but those are entered by the adult placing the order and are used only to get the kendama to the right student.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us at orders@hikendama.com and we'll take care of it. If you're in a place with specific privacy rights — for example California or the EU — tell us and we'll honor them.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
